10 Ways to Recharge After a Long Week

If I’ve been taught anything this year it’s just how important for my sanity and mental health to allow myself to recharge after a long week.

Sometimes long weeks consists of deadlines and chasing my little boy around. And, sometimes, long weeks mean I’m just mentally exhausted for no apparent reason, and that’s okay.

Here are some of my top ways that I like to recharge.

1. Call a friend

The Beatles said it best… I get by with a little help from my friends. Phone a friend and just chat about life. Even better, go out and get a drink. My go-to with friends is Mexican food while we chat about all things life over frozen margarita’s.

2. Get outdoors

There’s something so calming about taking a walk in God’s nature. I live out in the country and near a creek so sometimes when I just need a breath of fresh air, I’ll walk down towards the creek or go outside and play with my pups.

3. Curl up with a good book

Get lost in the book you’ve been wanting to read. I’ll be honest, I read a lot of business related and self-help books. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve actually read a book just for the fun of it. I included this on my list because I really do want to get back to reading for fun. One of my all time favorites series is the Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers.

4. Hang out with your kiddos

Sometimes all you need is to play with dinosaurs or curl up and watch movie with your kids. Lincoln’s favorite thing lately is his Noah’s Ark toy that he got for his birthday. And, of course, E-I-E-I-O. If that kid doesn’t grow up to be a farmer or work with animals, I’ll be shocked.

5. Go out to eat

Let’s be honest, who wants to cook after a long week? Plus, this can also coincide with #1. Grab you best girl friends and enjoy a night out.

6. Call your mom

This is my go-to. My mom always makes me feel better. Is it just me or do mom’s always know exactly what to say when you’ve had a rough week?

7. Go to the gym

For those that are gym rats (not me- ha), I know this is one of the best ways to get rid of all the tension of a long week. My exercise includes chasing Lincoln around. Ha! Just kidding… but not really.

8. Cuddle up with your dog

I mean, what’s better than cuddling up with your pet? (Besides baby snuggles.) Ryan and I have two dogs and a cat.

9. Color

There is something so relaxing about coloring. I think it’s because you have only one thing to focus on. I’m a child at heart and love me some old fashioned Crayola Crayons and a coloring book. Lincoln loves to color as well, so know when I go and buy kid coloring books from the dollar store it’s not so random.

10. Take bubble bath

And, a personal favorite, take a hot bubble bath. If you have an oil diffuser, I recommend adding this to your bubble bath routine. It’s like a mini spa day but without the cost!

Tell me… How do you recharge after a long week?
